BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES

THE JAMIESON FAMILY

James Jamieson founded first Picton Orange Lodge.

James Jamieson was of Scotch-Irish descent and came to Canada to settle in Picton. There he founded the first Orange Lodge.

Robert Jamieson, James' father, emigrated to Canada about two years later with his family. He died in Kingston shortly after, leaving John, Robert, William, Hugh, Edward and Joseph.

John learned the trade of tanning and worked in a tannery in Picton. He later went into business in Sherbrooke, Quebec, but returned to Picton before his death.

William Jamieson also settled in Picton and his wife Jane Brown. He was a blacksmith by trade and was also Chief of Police in Picton for six years.
